MINISTRIES

Preschool Programs
We are so blessed and thankful to have the opportunity to offer two preschool programs to fit your family’s needs. Our full-time program is perfect for households that need full time care for their children. We are open 6:00 am-5:30 pm Monday through Friday to accommodate our working parents. Our part-time program is an excellent option for stay-at-home parents.
This allows time for the children to interact with children their age, prepare for kindergarten, and still have plenty of time at home with their parent/grandparent.
Both of our preschool programs are faith based. We provide quality care and help prepare your children for kindergarten. The children leave preschool knowing that God loves them
and that they are special.
Women's Ministries
United Women in Faith is an organization whose vision is to turn faith, hope, and love into action on behalf of women, children, and youth around the world. Founded in 1869 by eight ladies whose 2 cents per meeting pledge allowed them to send the first missionary to China, the organization has grown to a mission that supports women, children, and youth locally, nationally, and globally. Since we are independent from the United Methodist Church, membership is open to women of all faiths. Our purpose is to support the global ministries of the United Methodist Church and each year the ladies of UWF here at Lewisburg First UMC have fundraised in order to donate locally to the Mary Farley Center, Hopetown, Junior’s House, Pregnancy Resource Center, Haven of Hope, and FUMC Youth; nationally to Henderson Settlement, Bethlehem Center, Operation Shoe Box, and the East TN Toy Drive; and globally to UMCOR, the United Methodist Church’s emergency relief fund. We meet the third Tuesday of each month at 10:30 in the church parlor. Please join us there. The Mary and Martha ministry was begun in 2023 at Lewisburg First United Methodist Church to provide food, comfort and fellowship to church members who needed help. This committee is divided into teams who reach out to church members. The need could be a member who is sick, depressed, lonely, undergoing chemotherapy or the loss of a loved one. These team members provide meals, love and fellowship to the church member for as long as it is necessary. The meals are either home cooked or bought at local restaurants and delivered to the church member. These team members serve as the hands and feet of Christ in witnessing faith and love to these brothers and sisters in Christ. Church members enjoy the food and the fellowship provided during these visits. This ministry continues to be an integral part of our church.

Mission Ministry
Lewisburg First UMC has a rich history of mission work in the Appalachian hills. We work through the Appalachia Service Project (ASP) based in Johnson City, TN. This started decades ago, when our youth and leaders made trips to repair homes. More recently, we have sent adult groups to Waverly, TN multiple times to work on new construction homes to replace those destroyed in the catastrophic flooding there in 2021. Now we are working in upper East Tennessee near Erwin and helping to build new homes to aid families displaced from the flooding there in September 2024 because of Hurricane Helene. ASP has committed to building at least 200 homes there, so this area will be our focus for the months to come. We work a week at a time and contribute time and labor towards these homes. Our church generously contributes funds to help underwrite each trip. Join us!
Flower Delivery Ministry
The Flower Delivery Ministry is full of blessings for those who deliver the flowers and those who receive them every other month. A group of volunteers prepares small bouquets of colorful flowers in containers finished with ribbons and a Bible verse of encouragement. The congregation is made aware of when it will be a flower delivery Sunday. Church members are encouraged to pick up a bouquet with the name and address of a church member who is ill or shut in for delivery. Hopefully the person who delivers the flowers has an opportunity to share God's love with our homebound church family members. This ministry provides an opportunity for service. We would invite others to join us as we prepare the bouquets and/or as we deliver them.

Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is a volunteer group called to serve God whose ministry is to care for the altar, vestments, vessels and altar linens of the church. The Altar Guild is responsible for ensuring the Sanctuary, Altar, and Chancel are prepared for worship each week. This includes setting the Altar table, changing paraments to correspond with liturgical seasons and special events such as weddings and funerals, preparing Holy Communion elements and Baptism, checking and replacing candles and arrangement and placement of flowers.
Currently, those helping with this ministry work in pairs and serve a month at a time. Each pair is responsible for three months of the year, on a rotating schedule. Anyone wishing to join this ministry
may contact the church office.
Outreach/Hospitality Ministry
The Hospitality function of this committee seeks to greet everyone who enters our doors and to welcome newcomers with a special Welcome Kit containing information about the church.
Outreach activities include a variety of efforts involving many members of the congregation. Recent projects have included initiating food drives for our local Hopetown ministry, providing appreciation bags for schoolteachers in the county and assisting needy persons with rent, utilities and life sustaining medicines through the congregation’s contributions to our Mary Farley ministry.

Special Events Ministry
The mission of the Special Events Committee is to plan events for celebrations and special life moments such as weddings, baby showers, and graduations for our members. The committee executes events that promote and provide opportunities for the congregation to connect with each other and build relationships that strengthen our faith.
The committee plans, organizes and prepares for these events that provide opportunities for the church to celebrate together.
